Why did a 55 cost me a life?
The target moved. Survival asks for 30 on the first five sounds, 40 from depth 6, 50 from depth 16 and 60 from depth 31, so a 55 misses at depth 20.
Mimic Party is easy to start. A short sound plays once, you copy it into your microphone in a single take, and you get a score out of 100. Knowing what sits behind that number is the harder part, so this page explains how to play Mimic Party Online in real detail.
Every round of Mimic Party opens with a cue card that most new players skip past. Two lines on it matter. The vocal cue is a phonetic spelling of the sound, something like mine KNEKHT, and saying it as written gets the rhythm right. The duration is the clip length, and it decides how long you get to record.
Each sound also has a hidden profile that decides which three things get scored and how much each counts. Pitch sounds weigh Pitch 45%, Timing 35%, Attack 20%; Rhythm sounds Rhythm 45%, Timing 30%, Energy 25%; Noise sounds Shape 40%, Timing 35%, Attack 25%; Speechlike sounds Contour 40%, Timing 35%, Duration 25%.
Timing sits between 30 and 35% on every profile, so getting the length right and starting on the first beat is worth more than any detail of how the sound is made.
In Mimic Party the clip plays once. A free retry after an unscored take jumps straight to the countdown without playing it again. Only an Encore replays a clip.
Your window is the clip length plus 0.45 seconds, rounded up to the next tenth, so a 1.4 second clip gives you 1.9 seconds. It never goes below 1.5 seconds and tops out at 8.5 seconds for voice-like sounds (Pitch and Speechlike) or 4.5 seconds for everything else.
Wild Calls adds 0.35 seconds (Long Breath), Machine Room takes 0.35 away (Rapid Fire), and the Risk route takes away another 0.42.
The countdown runs 3, 2, 1 at 0.85 seconds a step, and the window opens the moment the 1 disappears. You can press Stop take early. Reacting late costs nothing, because the scorer only looks at the part where you actually made sound.
NO CLEAN READ means Mimic Party could not compare the recording fairly, so it refuses to guess. You keep your life and streak, and the same sound comes back for a free retry.
| Message | What the scorer saw | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Too quiet | The whole take stayed under −45 dB | Move within 20 cm or raise your system input volume |
| Clipped | More than 1% of the audio hit the ceiling | Step back and drop your volume by a third |
| Noisy | Background at −35 dB or louder with almost no voiced sound | Find a quieter room and turn off speakers |
| Too short | Less than 80 ms of actual sound | Finish one full syllable before you press Stop take |
After the replay, Mimic Party shows the score and three bars. The bars are more useful than the number, because a low bar points at the one thing to change next time.
| Bar | What it compares | If it is low |
|---|---|---|
| Pitch / Contour | The rise and fall of your voice, not the exact note | Decide up, down or both before you start |
| Timing | Length, and where the hits land | Match the clip length in one breath |
| Attack | The first quarter of the sound | Hit the first syllable at full volume |
| Rhythm | How many hits, and where | Count the beats while the clip plays |
| Energy | The loud and soft parts | Follow them instead of one flat volume |
| Shape | Bright or dark tone | Change how you make it: breathy, rolled or popped |
| Duration | How long you sounded; 35% either way is free | Stop where the clip would have stopped |
The verdict only labels one take. NAILED IT starts at 90, ROOM SHAKEN at 75 and SOLID COPY at 60. Clearing is separate: Today's Stage clears at 30, Survival at the current target. Party points go to the leaderboard, and only cleared rounds add to them. A clear pays score × route multiplier × wheel multiplier, plus 10 for every third clear in a row, so an 80 on Risk as your third clear pays 130.
Survival shuffles every Sound World into a deck of 50. Each depth has a target. Miss it and you lose one of three Mic lives, and the next sound plays anyway. Save & exit before a take pauses the run; Mimic Party keeps that save in this browser only.
| Depth | 1 to 5 | 6 to 15 | 16 to 30 | 31 to 60 | 61 to 100 | 101+ |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Target | 30 | 40 | 50 | 60 | 68 | 70 |
The first five sounds are easy, hard ones show up from depth 16, and every tenth sound is always hard. Most players stop between depth 13 and 17, which is no coincidence: the jump to 50 at depth 16 is the first wall, and 60 at depth 31 the second.
After every third round a Bonus wheel button appears on the verdict screen. It does not open on its own; skip past it and the spin is gone. Eight equal segments: +5, +10 or +20 points, one Mic life back (up to three), Target −5, Target −10, ×1.25 points, and ×2 on your next clear. The spins at rounds 15 and 30 land right before the walls, so take those.
Neither mode has lives. Between rounds you choose a route; Next round keeps the Safe one. The Today's Stage page has the daily rules.
Risk trims 0.42 seconds from the window and pays 1.5 times the score. It is a good deal on sounds of 1.5 seconds or less, where the window is already at its minimum, and whenever you hold a ×2. It is a bad deal on long speechlike lines, where the shorter window chops off your ending.
In Chrome or Edge, click the icon left of the address bar, open Site settings, allow the microphone and reload. On an iPhone it is Settings, Safari, Microphone; on Android, site settings behind the address bar.
That is the system input level, not the game. Raise it in your Sound settings under Input. Bluetooth headset mics run quieter than a laptop's.
Only finished Survival and Today's Stage runs are filed; Practice and Just Play never are. Mimic Party keeps one best result per player per day. Without a name you appear as a flag and a masked address and share that slot with everyone on your network. The Today board resets at 8:00 AM US Eastern; the board page shows your local time.
The target moved. Survival asks for 30 on the first five sounds, 40 from depth 6, 50 from depth 16 and 60 from depth 31, so a 55 misses at depth 20.
No. The scorer moves your voice into the clip's range before comparing the shape, so a deep voice can copy a squeaky clip. An octave off costs about 16 points on that bar.
Open the site in Safari or Chrome, allow the microphone when asked, and play as normal. Keep a hand's width between phone and mouth.
A run that clears no sound is not listed, and anonymous players on one network share a slot. Adding a name gives you your own.
That covers how to play Mimic Party Online. If you remember one thing, make it the clip length. Play Mimic Party Online now, or warm up with Today's Stage.
